• He was formally the Group Head of Human Resources and Administration at the Bank
of Africa Ghana. In that role, he was credited with the successful design and
development of the Bank’s policy guideline on HR related issues such as the HR Manual, Employment procedures, Training & Development Policy, Performance Management, Employee Engagement, Compensation & Benefits Management, Disciplinary and Grievance procedures etc. He also provided advice to the Executive Management and the Board on Employee Relations practices necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee
morale and motivation. He further advised Executive Management and the Board of Directors on effective reward systems to aid decision making.
• Abu was at the forefront of leading the agenda to adopt appropriate criteria for
efficient employment and development of a superior workforce as well as
compliance to employment regulatory concerns and this he has done through the
introduction of a robust and effective Performance Management system that ensures that appraisals are done in conformity with best practices and policy. One of the
main success stories of the Bank is its effective HR succession plan and this is
attributed to him. He designed, developed, and is implementing a Talent
Management Programme that is creating a pool for the Bank’s Succession Planning
Programme.
• He successfully put in place policies and programmes to ensure a sound organisational culture and a harmonious working environment and successfully oversaw a Job Analysis and Job Evaluation exercise for the Bank.
• He has worked as an HR Business Partner (Doubled as Deputy Head, HR) at the Access Bank Ghana Limited (then Intercontinental Bank); Head, Training and Development (Doubled as Deputy Head, HC) at the Intercontinental Bank Ghana Limited; Senior
Manager for Operations at The Capital Group, Ghana, a Management Consulting
Firm; and Manager, Human Resource Services, The Capital Group, Ghana.
• Abu is also a trained and professional teacher who has taught in schools in Ghana and the United Kingdom. He has also been a part-time lecturer in Employee Relations at Ghana Employers Association – ABE Diploma Programme. Abu holds an
MBA in Employee Relations from the University of Leicester, UK, and a B.Ed.
Psychology, from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
• He is a PRINCE2 certified Project Manager, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
trained, a Certified Trainer, a Certified Transformational Coach and a member of
the Association of Coaching Professionals of Ghana (ACP).

Administration at VALCO.
